There are many words that have become common parlance in our everyday life, and yet, it never occurs to us that they are Urdu words or have their roots in Urdu. We assume that these words are part of the Hindi vocabulary . Given below are some such Urdu words and their Hindi equivalent. Please feel free to add to the list.
Zindagi – life (Jeevan in Hindi)
Khwab – dream (Sapna in Hindi)
Tanha – alone (Akela in Hindi)
Mohabbat / Ishq – love (pyaar in Hindi)
Arzoo/Khwahish (derived from Persian) – desire/wish (Ichcha in hindi)
Jahan – world (Duniya in Hindi)
Kitaab – book (Pustak in Hindi)
Raabta (derived from Arabic) – bond, relationship (Rishta in Hindi)
urduwallahs 
Both “duniya” and “rishta” are Urdu terms, the respective hindi words are “vishw” and “sambandh”…please confirm you rinformation before publishing :)
Most words we use are infact urdu (derived from persian), like “dil” (hindi=hruday) etc etc
this is a silly post because the urdu-hindi divide is more in the head than anywhere. and these words exist in other languages too like punjabi, sindhi, pushto and kashmiri not to speak of marathi telugu and kannada. these words are borrowed from persian, arabic or yurkish just as today we borrow words from english and french etc. many of these words are used freely in hindi and to claim them for urdu as distinct from hindi is downright daft,
well, by saying “Urdu is same as hindi”, was exactingly how urdu was killed in UP post independence, there were schools that were barred from teaching urdu even to those whose mother tongue it was, by saying, ‘oh it’s the same’…And now you have generations there that cannot read or write urdu and the entire idiom is getting lost.
Ask those around you (how have learned hindi) if they can say “good, better, best” in hindi or even “bad, worse, worst’…
Urdu and Hindi are not sisters…; they are twin sisters in fact. .because they are begotten by the same mother ie ‘Hindostaan’ or Bharat; rest is the vested interest of politicians….. and ineffective to our cause.., because:-
‘ Unka hai jo kaam woh ahl- e- siyasat janain
Apna to paighaam -e- mohabbat hai jahan tak pohchay!”
(ahl-e- siyasat meaning : people who belong to politics (of any kind)
