Did you know that popular Urdu poet and Hindi lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi (8 March 1921 – 25 October 1980) had an unrequited love affair with Punjabi writer and poet Amrita Pritam (August 31, 1919 – October 31, 2005).
It is said that his relationship with Amrita Pritam was so passionate that at one time, while attending a press conference, Amrita wrote his name hundreds of times on a sheet of paper. The two of them would meet without saying a word and Sahir would puff away with his cigarettes, and after he left, Amrita would smoke the cigarette butts left by him. After his death, she hoped the smoke from her cigarettes would meet him in the other world.
Sahir Ludhianvi remained a bachelor all his life.

Indeed. It is for Amrita that Sahir wrote the poem “Kabhie Kabhie”, and it is for Sahir that Amrita wrote the poem “Oh Mere Dost Mere Ajnabi”.
Wow ! Really! that is interesting to learn. Thanks for writing in.
“Main phool taak raha hoon tumaharay juday mei
Tymhari aankh mussarat (khushi) say jhukti jaati hai
Na janay aaj main kya baat kahnay wala hoon
zaban khushk (dry) hai, awaaz rukti jati hai…”
these were the lines from Sahir to Amrita (shayad)… yet theres is another story….: when Sahir sahab came close to singer sudha malhotra, Amrita got solace with another man called Imroz…. it all changes . (jazbaat too?) what a reality of life , waqt marham bhi hai… waqt bedard bhi , ..; Preetam, Amrita’s husband knew all about his wife’s feeling for Sahir yet the marriage worked for so many years tlll he died… was he so broad minded? or men are more practicle and tolerant in general? or the pretend to be so when they have no option? Your openion please!
Well i guess Preetams emotions got overpowered and overlapped by Amrita jis strong social and individual persona.
i think preetams love and emotions were true
