Amal means to hope, aspiration in Arabic. Amal also means to act or implement on something.
Here is a lovely sher by Ghulam Murtaza Rahi with the lafz –
Husn-e-amal mein barkat hoti hai be-shumaar
Pathar bhi todiye toh saliqe se todiye
There is great fortune (and blessings) in the beauty of actions
Even when you break stone, break it in style
Another lovely one by Khaleel Qidwai –
Ik zindagi amal ke liye bhi nasib ho
Yeh zindagi toh nek iraadon mein kar gayi
One life should be given to implement and take actions
This life has gone by in just good thoughts and intentions (of wanting to act)
Another one by Muneer Niyazi
Kisi ko apne amal ka hisaab kya dete
Sawaal saare ghalat the, jawaab kya dete
How could I given an account to someone of all my actions
The questions were all wrong, what answers could I give
