Qawwali as a form evolved in India in the era of Amir Khusro originating in Sufi practices. Later this form acquired a character of its own, having several streams of practice. Qawwali is a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia: in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan, in Hyderabad, Delhi and other parts of India, especially North India; as well as Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and many parts of Bangladesh. It is part of a musical tradition that stretches back for more than 700 years.

The announcement about the eent on 12.04.2016 has come too close to the event preventing at least some interested persons to plan and attend the same.
Hope there is enough time available in future to plan to attend similar events.
Attended the Mehfil for the first time yesterday and a mesmerizing experience it was.
I must say it is a wonderful initiative to bring the lovers of Urdu language on a single platform, and with personalities such as Javed Siddiqui Sa’ab and Shama Zaidi informing the attendants with their valuable knowledge about the language and the various forms of Qawwalis, what else could one ask for.
Hope to be a regular at the Mehfils from now on. These are experiences not worth missing. :)
